Teak Deck Restoration
Around 8 to 10 years into your boat’s life, the caulk on a teak deck may become weaker, worn, and detached, allowing moisture penetration. This may be due to a number of factors, including the teak deck and caulk used, or perhaps the seams were not properly prepared and filled.
The use of aggressive cleaners and acidic washes hurt teak decks. Inadequate cleaning and corrosive treatments are other common reasons for a shorter life span of your beautiful teak deck.
Eventually, it will be necessary to re-seam a teak deck. This process is extensive and laborious — it is paramount to properly clean and remove the existing caulk from the seams and adequately sand the surfaces and re-caulk. This is an extensive process but in return it should extend your deck’s life for another 8/10 years.
Aesthetics matter. You deserve a great-looking teak deck. However, what truly matters is to preserve the integrity of your yacht and its teak decks from infiltration and rotting.
